I agree with this post and I am a hospitalist. My group is a large group (20+) but we are assigned to certain physicians each instead of a large pool of physicians. It allows us to form a relationship with our primary doctors and I have learned how some of my docs practice and what they like or which doctors they prefer to use. It also allows some continuity with patient care, especially those who are frequently admitted. Our group, unlike most of the others in town, still admit and care for our own patients. Nobody can tell me why it makes sense for somebody, at possible the very worst time in their life, to be expected to form a trusting relationship with a stranger. We know the patients, we know their families and a lot of times the family dynamics. And we know we’ll be seeing them later. So do they.
