I see a lot of unhappiness among doctors.  I worry about this.  About doctors who are just miserable.  Miserable to talk with, miserable in their personal lives.

Every has an idea about how to make it all better. (Go back in time to the good old days when people paid in chickens.  Socialize medicine so that everyone has insurance.  Restrict malpractice suits.  Restrict malpractice lawyers and confine them to small Pacific islands.)

I don’t know the answer to making everyone happy or making medicine fun again (if it ever really was).  But I know this; if doctors expect all of their fulfillment to come from a profession, they’ll be disappointed every time.  A job, so full of possible mistakes and frustrations, can’t be one’s sole validation.

There has to be more!  And there is…
